Well, it finally happened. You guys have managed to use up over 700GB in less than a month.
As most of you who read the news items that show up on the front page know, this direct download site only has 700GB in transfer bandwidth available.
I never quite thought it would ever be completly used, as 700GB is quite a bit of space, but it seems you guys really like the site and you have managed to use it all.
So in an effort to keep you all from using up too much more and costing the server fines for overages I'm going to be disabling the downloads for the rest of the month. The site and everything will still be here, but the download links will no longer work.
Now I realize I could act like many other sites out there and demand some sort of monetary compensation for continuing to download or create some sort of sob story to get you all to donate to keep the site up. However, I prefer to leave this kinda thing up to you, the users.
If you guys want the site to stay up longer there is the option to upgrade the bandwidth to an additional 500GB per month, which would make it 1200GB per month total. But that willl cost an additional amount of money per month, which isn't much but the upgrade will have to be applied to the entire contract at once. And that would come to about $90-100 dollars for the rest of this years agreement and would have to be applied again if/when the agreement is renewed in May.
The other option is to do nothing, as I have no intention of making any of you pay for what is available on this site. I'm perfectly content with having to disable the downloads at the end of the month to prevent the overages.
Sure it's kinda a pain to you guys, but you have to admit it's better than having to pay some sort of registration fee.
Anyway, I think I've rambled long enough and I'll leave it to you guys to decide what to do.
